A House for Healing: Museu Global 20+1
Celebrating over two decades of history, the “Museu Global 20+1” exhibition marked the 21st anniversary of the Museu da Farmácia with a renewed focus on humanity’s enduring pursuit of healing. The exhibition presented a vast and diverse collection that reflects the global journey of medicine and pharmacy across cultures and civilizations — a visual and historical testimony to human resilience in the face of illness and the universal quest for health.
Studio Astolfi was invited to create the exhibition’s spatial concept, responding with a poetic “space within a space” that transforms the museum environment into an evocative and contemplative setting. At the center of the installation, a traditional house-like structure was constructed entirely from slender metallic framing. Its soft, translucent walls are made from light blue curtains, gently enclosing the exhibit in a space that feels both domestic and ethereal.
Inside, the objects are displayed on a simple and honest support system made of classic 10x10 cm white tiles, with wooden legs that add warmth and grounding to the minimal structure. The design is quiet but intentional — a delicate balance between architecture and museography that allows the pieces to speak. In this way, the exhibition space becomes a sanctuary for the museum’s collection, amplifying its richness while creating a moment of pause, reflection, and connection.
Through this intervention, Studio Astolfi bridges science, culture, and design, offering an architectural expression of humanity’s shared history of healing — a story told not only through objects, but also through the emotions they evoke.
