Hermès
Autumn – 2017
Defying Gravity
For Hermès’ Autumn 2017 window displays in Lisbon, Studio Astolfi created a poetic exploration of balance, gravity, and playful tension. The concept revolved around surreal compositions where objects seemed to defy physics — a dynamic and elegant staging of Hermès’ products through sculptural installations.
Crafted from wood, brass, and leather, the structures supported Hermès bracelets suspended mid-air, as if magnetically drawn toward an oversized horseshoe magnet. Nearby, a giant sheet of paper hovered delicately, with fine Hermès shirts draped across it. Above, an enormous Chinese ink pen held a single drop of ink frozen in time, about to fall — a theatrical moment frozen in space.
Vivid geometric forms reminiscent of childhood building blocks served as colorful backdrops, perfectly framing Hermès scarves. In one of the largest vitrines, gloves, hats, shoes, and ties were staged in carefully composed equilibrium with glass vessels, floating balloons, and minimalist wooden constructions. A handcrafted wooden seesaw showcased a single Hermès bag in perfect balance — a visual metaphor for the precision and sophistication of the brand.
By turning everyday objects into sculptural gestures and introducing scale play, Studio Astolfi transformed Hermès’ autumn windows into a kinetic poem of design, craftsmanship, and imagination.
