Quinta da Ferraria
Casa de Família, Rio Maior (under construction)
Layers of Color and Craft in the Portuguese Countryside
Tucked within the rolling countryside of Rio Maior, Quinta da Ferraria is a 700m2 family home nestled in an equestrian estate, designed for a couple and their four children. Surrounded by horses and open nature, the house is a celebration of rural life, layered with artistic detail, color, and craftsmanship.
Spanning three floors, the architecture balances grandeur and intimacy. The ground floor is paved in traditional terracotta tiles laid in a herringbone pattern, while upper levels transition to oak wood flooring, adding warmth and natural continuity. At the heart of the home lies a soaring double-height cabinet is welcoming a space that features equestrian objects and curated art, subtly framing the family’s passion and the home’s setting.
Throughout the house, Studio Astolfi embraced a narrative of personality and texture. Five bedrooms, each under romantic pitched ceilings, are dressed in hand-painted wooden wainscoting, in a palette of gentle but distinct tones—powder pink, soft terracotta, sage green, and sky blue—giving each space its own unique character.
Multiple gathering areas unfold across the home: a main living room, a library, and a dedicated conversation room, each connected through thoughtful transitions, including custom-designed cabinets that hide functional elements like elevator doors and guest bathroom entrances.
Original fireplaces have been lovingly restored and modernized, while natural materials—light woods, bricks, and ceramic tiles—anchor the house in its rural environment. Outside, a calm, terracotta-framed pool completes the setting, inviting quiet moments and joyful gatherings.
Quinta da Ferraria is a vibrant yet delicate countryside residence—an architecture of joyful storytelling, family life, and rural sophistication
