Bairro do Avillez
As Paredes Têm Ouvidos / Walls Have Ears
José Avillez and Studio Astolfi Bring Lisbon’s Soul to the Table
Chef José Avillez enlisted Studio Astolfi to infuse history and soul into his culinary hub—a cluster of conceptually connected spaces that includes a tavern, a courtyard restaurant, and a grocery shop, all celebrating the richness of Portuguese cuisine.
To evoke the spirit of Lisbon’s traditional neighborhoods, Studio Astolfi created an immersive installation of domestic façades, complete with windows that offer glimpses into the imagined lives of Lisbon locals. The design is layered with old photographs, mementos, and intimate treasures sourced from the iconic Feira da Ladra flea market and vintage shops across the city. These objects conjure memories of alfacinha family life, popular proverbs, and clever conceptual twists that invite exploration and surprise.
The result is a relaxed, luminous, artistic environment—playful yet thoughtful—where every corner holds a story, and every detail encourages discovery.
