Unveiling Graham’s: A Curiosity Cabinet of Wonders
The artistic intervention in the display cube of the Graham’s Visitor Centre in Vila Nova de Gaia is inspired by the concept of a Cabinet of Curiosities—a space where the story of Graham’s unfolds through objects that represent its rich and storied universe.
The cabinet is cube-shaped, with three open sides that align with the three glass fronts of the display window. Designed as a sculptural and functional piece, it features a playful composition of niches, drawers, rotating doors, and secret compartments—each inviting discovery.
Inside these compartments, we celebrate elements that are intrinsically tied to the world of Graham’s: miniature port wine barrels, vintage bottles, grapes, old books, historical photographs, cigars, antique toys, and more. Some objects are crafted in a variety of materials and scales, while others are authentic pieces from the Graham’s collection.
As the installation debuts during the festive season, we’ve incorporated subtle holiday-inspired touches—temporary additions that will later give way to new elements, ensuring the display continues to evolve.
The entire cabinet is designed with a monochromatic palette that highlights the structural form while allowing the objects within to shine in varied tones of the same color. Discreet integrated LED lighting will illuminate selected openings, giving each object the attention it deserves.
A Cabinet of Curiosities full of secrets and surprises, inviting visitors to explore and dive deep into the enchanting world of Graham’s.
